What will you set and review for 2022?
We have all heard of S.M.A.R.T (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Timebound) goals but, well what do you do when S.M.A.R.T goals aren’t working for you?
Dorianne St Fleur a high-performance mindset and career coach talks about setting SMARTer goals. Her take on the acronym is that it needs livening up so that we feel excited and inspired to take action So, here’s a summary of her… well her summary:
S is for Sexy (her word not mine hehe) goals - In other words, does your goal get you excited? Want to make you jump out of bed on a Monday morning and work towards it? Our goals need to be ones that spring us into action and make us feel excited and alive not flat and deflated like a damp squid.
M is for Meaningful – Does you goal mean something to you? What is the WHY behind your goal. What is it that you want to achieve? Complete this sentence without thinking ‘I want to [fill in the blank] to tap into your subconscious and set your goals from the inside out
A is for Aspirational – Are your goals stretching? Inspirational? will get you out of your comfort zone? There is a saying that everything we want is on the other side of scary. So although your goals must excite there must be a little bit of trepidation to take you to another level
R is for Real - How your goal(s) makes you feel will let you if it is for real. Is it the goal YOU really want and not the dressed-up desires of your parents, friends and family? Your thoughts and actions will soon tell you if this something you really, really want.
T is for Time-Sensitive – Setting goals that create a sense of urgency to get
it done sooner rather than later is what we must aim for. So set a shorter time frame
then review will be more motivating than a longer time-span.
