How to Prioritize When Everything Feels Important

I don’t know about you, but it does feel that the ‘Juggle Struggle’ has gone up a notch or two since the lock down. Although the coronavirus pandemic has given us the gift of time other things have come on stream to fill the space. Home schooling, food shop in-store, cooking three meals a day, more laundry, more chores and supporting elderly parents/vulnerable members of the family.

What is a woman to do if she is trying to hold down a job and/or start, pivot or develop a business as well!?!!! Pareto law says that 80% of our results comes from 20% of our efforts. However, how does this translate to a working day or week in our ‘new’ normal.  If you feel overwhelmed by all you have to do, how can you prioritize when everything feels important?

Ruth Soukup from the ‘Do it Scared Podcast’ has a 3-step process which she shared with her listeners and clients on how to prioritize:

Step 1: Do a brain dump. Put everything that is swirling around your head on what you have to, should, could and would like to do on paper

Step 2: Assign every task one rank order number of importance starting from the number one

Step 3: Whatever you have listed as your top four tasks make them your priority and everything else can wait or be assigned less time to them
