3 Ways to Keep Going When You have Just Got Going in Business

When we are starting out in business,  we have to juggle lots of different hats to run it, as well as deliver the product and/or service. You will at some point bump up against something you don’t know or have never done before, so you are either on a steep learning curve to get the job done or find someone who can.

Beginning your business journey as a solopreneur or freelancer,  may at times seem overwhelming. However, others have taken this road now well-travelled,  so it is important to remember that you are not alone.  The key here is connecting with your tribe. Like-minded people who are at your business stage or just a couple of steps ahead who can pass on their hard-earned wisdom.

So, what are the 3 ways (think 3B’s) you can connect with other entrepreneurs to keep you motivated?

1.       Join a business association – Being a member of your local chamber of commerce, business membership organisations like Enterprise Nation, Federation of Small Business (FSB) or trade/gender specific ones like IPSE (Independent Professionals and Self Employed) or the Female Entrepreneurs Association, not only give you the opportunity to virtually meet other people, they also have a wealth of resources and information, advice and guidance to give you invaluable support.

2.       Get a business BFF – When you don’t know what you don’t know, just ask. This is where a Business Best Friend (BFF) can come in handy. Not only do you have a companion to travel on the entrepreneurship road with, if they are couple of steps ahead of you they can introduce you to their contacts, business services and suppliers for a range of services, e.g. printers, graphic design, merchandise. Also, you can bounce ideas off each other, hold each to account; and do business together.

3.       Read biographies -  In the film Shadowlands about C.S. Lewis there is a great line that says ‘We read to know we’re not alone’ and reading the biographies of business woman does just that. From Carrie Green's, She Means Business, Jamie Kern Lima ‘Believe IT’ and Ronne Brown’s ‘From Mopping Floors to Making Millions on Instagram’ these women share warts and all how, why and what they did to start and grow their business. Hints and tips that you can learn with the reassurance that what you are feeling, and experiencing is real and can be overcome.
