3 Tiers until Christmas: Coming out of Lockdown 2
After midnight on Wednesday 2 December 2020 England will come out of lockdown 2 and into a 3 tier local restriction system proposed by the government. To keep the nation’s spirits up we have been promised a 5-day Christmas reprieve, from the 23 December to 27 December.
However, what will we have to endure until then? Depending on which tier you are in, which businesses will be allowed to open; whilst others holding the wrong end of the pre -Christmas cracker will be ordered to close?
TIER 1 – MEDIUM (e.g. this has been proposed for Cornwall)
- Pubs and restaurants ordered to shut at 11pm
- Hairdressers and other health and beauty businesses allowed to open
- Limited numbers allowed to watch sport events and live performances
- Rule of 6 applies to meeting indoors and outdoors
- Minimise travel and work from home where possible
TIER 2 – HIGH (e.g. this has been proposed for London)
- Pubs and restaurants ordered to shut at 11pm
- Alcohol only served as part of a substantial meal
- Hairdressers and other health and beauty businesses allowed to open
- Limited numbers allowed to watch sport events and live performances
- Rule of 6 meeting applies outdoors
- No household mixing indoors
TIER 3 – VERY HIGH (e.g. this has been proposed for Manchester)
- Pubs and restaurants are closed except for takeaway and delivery
- Hairdressers and other health and beauty businesses allowed to open
- Indoor entertainment venues are closed
- Guidance on travelling in and out of the area
- Rule of 6 meeting outdoors applies in public spaces e.g. parks
- No household mixing indoors or outdoors in private gardens or hospitality venues
